About Us
Country Tots is a small, rural baby and toddler group and we hope that you will find us both friendly and welcoming and enjoy your time with us. In this booklet we aim to describe our set up and our usual activities and give some guidance for all new friends and visitors.
Charges - Give us a try - first session free
We charge £2.00 per session (carer plus one child) and 20p for every extra child. Half price session charges if you miss snack time or are on rota duty. Please put your money in the box on top of the kitchen worktop.
Register
Please complete the register (blue folder on kitchen worktop) filling in your name and names of the children with you. This is of particular importance and will be referred to in case of fire or other emergency.
Play
Throughout the session there will be the opportunity of free play which may include;
- Slides / Rockers / Ride ons
- Baby area
- Small world toys
- Construction eg blocks
- Jigsaws / Books
- Home corner
During the session we may have a messy play activity, for example;
- Water Play
- Dough Play
- Texture Play (cooked pasta)
- Finger Painting
We will provide aprons but it’s a good idea to wear old clothes or have change of clothes with you.
Snack Time (10.00 to 10.30am)
We try to provide a healthy snack of mixed fresh fruit with crackers or toast. Occasionally we have cake or biscuits.
All children are encouraged to sit at the table to avoid accidents and choking.
Please let us know if your child has any particular dietary requirement or any food or non food allergy.
Craft (10.30 to 11am)
Most weeks we run a craft session and this can vary from sticking, painting to model making.
Culm Valley Children’s Centre Visit
We are fortunate to be part of the CVCC rural outreach programme and at least 3 times a term they visit us and run an activity normally their Get UP and GO physical session.
Tidy Up Time (11.10am)
Country Tots is run by volunteers and we need everyone to help to tidy up and clear away at the end of the session we will then finish off with
Story or Song Time (11.20 to 11.30am)
Once the main hall is clear we move to the adjoining committee room for a sing-along or storytelling.
Outings and Get Togethers
We try to arrange regular group outings such as summer picnics and visits to soft play centres. Also on the last session before a school holiday we finish with lunch for adults and children at the local village pub. Any suggestions for these socials are very welcome.
Rota Duty
In order to share the work and enable everyone to spend time with their children we have a duty rota. Each week 3 individuals will be tasked to provide the snack and refreshments and run the craft session. Volunteering for the rota is not compulsory but obviously lessens the burden on the others in the group. Please see the Rota Sheet for more information. As a thank you to those on rota duty they pay a reduced session rate of £1.
First Aid
The first aid box and accident book is kept in the kitchen and will be made available during the session. If an ambulance is required one of the session leaders will call for assistance.
Fire and Other Emergency
In the event of fire or other emergency please leave the building by the nearest exit and gather in the car park to the rear of the building. One of the session leaders will call for assistance and take a roll call to ensure everyone has evacuated the building.
In the interest of safety - a few rules!!!
- No children in the kitchen
- Never carry more than one hot drink and it must never be left unattended or near any child
- Children must be supervised when going to the toilet
- No smoking
- Doors to be kept closed
- Children in your care must be supervised by you at all times and never left alone
- Children to sit when having juice and snacks
- Prams and pushchairs to be left at the top of the hall (either side of the double doors)
Please, Please, Please
Do not be put off by the rules; they are designed to provide a safe environment for our children to play in.
