Weather Report – October 2018
In Plymtree during October there was a good deal of dry weather with over half the days in the month recording no measurable rainfall. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 67.7mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 117.6mm. This means that we received 58% of the Dunkeswell average. Of this total, 49.0mm or 72% was recorded in the 4 day period from the 10th to the 13th. The wettest day of the month was the 12th with 14.5mm. There were 10 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 14.7 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during October was 21.5°C on the 10th. There were several sharp frosts at the end of the month which killed off most plants that had been flowering since the summer. The lowest temperature, -4.9°C, was recorded on the 30th. The strongest wind during October occurred during the morning of the 12th when a gust of 38.0mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green in association with Storm Callum.
