Weather Report – July 2018
In Plymtree there was a good deal of dry weather during July, although it was nothing like as dry as June. Most of any rainfall occurred during the first few and the last few days of the month. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 38.8mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.8mm. This means that we received 58% of the Dunkeswell average. A complete contrast to July 2017 when there was 130% of the Dunkeswell average but not as dry as July 2016 when there was only 22% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 1st with 12.5mm. There were only 7 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.2 days for Dunkeswell. Thunder was heard on the 16th but there was no measurable rainfall. It was a very warm and sometimes even hot month with every day having maximum temperatures above 21°C (70°F) and 6 days exceeding 30°C (86°F). The average daily maximum temperature for the month was 27°C (81°F). The highest temperature I recorded during July was 33.3°C (91.9°F) on the 8th. There were a few nights when the temperatures did fall just below 10°C. However, overnight on the 29th/30th the temperature didn’t fall below 15.4 °C (59.7°F). The lowest temperature, 9.2°C was recorded on the 25th. The strongest wind during July occurred during the early afternoon of the 28th when a gust of 31.1mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
