Weather Report – October 2017

In Plymtree during October rainfall amounts were generally small making it a dry month when compared to average. However, having said that, rainfall was measured on 21 days during the month, with the last 5 days being the only significant run of completely dry days. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 39.9mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 117.6mm. This means that we received only 34% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 19th with 10.5mm. There were 12 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 14.7 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during October was 19.4°C on the 1st. The lowest temperature, 0.2°C, was recorded on the 30th. Although no air frosts (temperature below 0.0°C) were recorded there a couple of ground frosts. The strongest wind during October occurred during the afternoon of the21st when a gust of 43.4mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
