Weather Report – August and Summer 2017

In Plymtree the unsettled weather that predominated during the second half of July continued throughout much of August. However, there was a short dry and warm spell of weather between the 21st and the 28th.

The total rainfall I measured for the month was 77.0mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 73.8mm. This means that we received 104% of the Dunkeswell average. The total summer (Jun, Jul and Aug) rainfall I recorded was 228.0mm which compares to an average of 206.6mm at Dunkeswell or 110% of average. The wettest day of August was the 31st with 12.0mm. There were 14 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.4 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during August was 27.5°C on the 28th, Bank Holiday Monday, and a perfect day for the Country Fayre. The lowest temperature of the month, 5.7°C, was recorded on the 20th. The highest temperature for the summer was recorded on the 20th June with a maximum of 32.6°C .The lowest temperature was recorded in the early hours of the 3rd June when the temperature fell to 4.7°C .The strongest wind during August occurred during the morning of the day of the 2nd and the afternoon of the 18th when a gust of 29.8mph was recorded.
