Weather Report – July 2016
In Plymtree it was all change in July following the above average rainfall in June. The total rainfall I measured for the month was only 14.6mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.8mm. This means that we received only 22% of the Dunkeswell average. This was the lowest monthly rainfall total I’ve recorded since March 2012 when there was only 13.7mm. Of course it all changed on the 1st August but more about that in next month’s report. The wettest days of the month were both the 2nd and the 22nd with only 4.5mm on each day. There were only 4 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.2 days for Dunkeswell. However, rainfall was recorded on 13 days during the month (9 days when less than 1mm was recorded). It was generally a warm month with most days having maximum temperatures above 21°C (70°F). The highest temperature I recorded during July was 30.8°C on the 19th. There were a few nights when the temperatures fell below 10°C. The lowest temperature, 5.2°C was recorded on the 13th. The strongest wind during July occurred during the early evening of the 10th when a gust of 32.0mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
