May & Spring 2016

Weather Report – May and Spring 2016

Following the predominately dry weather during April in Plymtree May continued in the same vain. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 36.6mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 72.3mm. This means that we received only 51% of the Dunkeswell average. The total spring (Mar, Apr and May) rainfall I recorded was 158,9mm which compares to an average of 227.2mm at Dunkeswell or 70% of average. The wettest day of May was the 21st with 7.0mm. There were 13 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.3 days for Dunkeswell, which shows that daily rainfall totals were generally small. The highest temperature I recorded during May was 23.4°C on the 8th. The lowest temperature, -1.3°C was recorded on the 4th. This was the only air frost of the month. The strongest wind occurred during the afternoon of the 31st when a gust of 29.8mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
