Weather Report – April 2016
In Plymtree the weather during April was mixed. Although rain was recorded on more than half of the days during the month amounts were generally small. Temperatures were quite variable with a few reasonably warm days but also some much cooler ones and more especially some cold nights with frosts recorded. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 30.0mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 75.0mm. This means that we received only 40% of the Dunkeswell average. This April was almost as dry as April 2015 when there was only 26% of the Dunkeswell average. Hail was recorded in some of the showers that occurred. The wettest day of the month was the 22nd with a mere 5.5mm (0900 GMT on 21st to 0900 GMT on 22nd). However, the 24 hour total for this rainfall event was 9.5mm, as it spanned 2 rainfall days. There were only 9 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.0 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during April was 18.3°C on the 19th. The lowest temperature, -4.2°C was recorded on the 28th. The strongest wind I recorded during April occurred on the 26th with a gust of 25.7mph from the North West. The strongest wind recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green was 31.1mph, also on the afternoon of the 26th.
