Weather Report – March 2016
In Plymtree the weather during March followed a similar pattern to the rest of the country with generally unsettled weather for both the first and last 8 days of the month and mostly dry weather in between. The rainfall totals from the 1st to 8th was 36mm and from the 24th to 31st 56mm. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 92.3mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 79.9mm. This means that we received 116% of the Dunkeswell average. There were some wintery showers with hail and snow fell on the 4th but didn’t lie. The wettest day of the month was the 27th with 27.0mm. There were 12 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 12.7 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during March was 15.8°C on the 25th. The lowest temperature, -4.0°C was recorded on the 21st. The strongest wind I recorded during March occurred on the morning of the 9th with a gust of 40mph from the North West following the passage of Storm Jake. Unfortunately Pete Draper’s weather station was not fully operational during March; however he did manage to record a gust of 36.5mph during the early hours of the 28th associated with Storm Katie.
