Weather Report – January 2016
In Plymtree January was very much like December with a continuation of the generally unsettled weather, although not quite as mild. Rain was recorded every day from 28th December to 18th January, a total of 22 days. Of these 15 days were classed as rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm) and 6 days recorded more than 10mm. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 133.6mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 112.5mm. This means that we received 119% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of January was the 1st with 26.0mm. There were 16 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 15.6 days for Dunkeswell, and only 7 days with no measurable rainfall. Thunder was heard on the 9th and hail was recorded on the 10th. The highest temperature I recorded during January was 11.4°C on the 2nd. The lowest temperature, -7.0°C was recorded on the 20th. Unlike December air frosts were recorded on several nights during the month. The strongest wind during January occurred during the afternoon of the 25th when a gust of 38.0mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
