Weather Report – July 2015

In Plymtree the much drier weather of previous months was broken during July. There were many warm days when the maximum temperature exceeded 21°C (70°F) but also some cool nights. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 102.3mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.8mm. This means that we received 153% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 24th with 24.0mm (0900 on 24th to 0900 on 25th). However, the 24 hour total for this rainfall event was 42.5mm, as it spanned 2 rainfall days. There were 10 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.2 days for Dunkeswell. However, rainfall was recorded on 22 days during the month (12 days when less than 1mm was recorded). The highest temperature I recorded during July was 27.6°C on the 1st. In contrast on the 24th the temperature didn’t rise above 13.3°C .There were several nights when the temperatures fell below 10°C. The lowest temperature, 2.3°C was recorded on the 31st. There were several windy days during July, especially during the last week of the month. The strongest wind during July occurred during the late afternoon of the 20th when a gust of 30.4mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
