Weather Report – April 2015

In Plymtree the weather during April, like the rest of the country, was dominated by warm dry settled conditions, with only the last week being somewhat cooler and more unsettled. The total rainfall I measured for the month was only 19.5mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 75.0mm. This means that we received only 26% of the Dunkeswell average and now the 4th month in a row with below average rainfall. The wettest day of the month was the 25th with 9.5mm. Hail was recorded in some of the showers that occurred on the 28th and 29th. There were only 6 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.0 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during April was 24.4°C on the 15th. Although the daytime temperatures were generally in the warm category, at night temperatures dropped quite low and frosts were recorded on 5 nights during the month. The lowest temperature, -2.0°C was recorded on the 6th. The strongest wind during April occurred during the early hours of the 12th when a gust of 34.2mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
