In Plymtree the weather during the first part of February (1st – 11th) was cold and dry whilst the second part (12th onwards) was milder with rain on most days, although there were still some colder days. In particular on the 23rd the temperature didn’t rise above 4.6°C and there were wintery showers of rain, sleet, snow and hail and even a thunderstorm during the evening. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 70.2mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 82.7mm. This means that we received 85% of the Dunkeswell average. The total winter (Dec, Jan and Feb) rainfall I recorded was 207.3mm which compares to an average of 316.4mm at Dunkeswell or only 66% of average. The wettest day of the month was the 22nd with 16.0mm and there were 11 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.9 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during February was 13.5°C on the 28th. The lowest temperature, -5.9°C, was recorded on the 10th. The strongest wind during February occurred during the evening of the 28th when a gust of 38.7mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
