Weather Report – January 2015

In Plymtree the weather during the first half of January was generally mild and unsettled whilst the second half was somewhat colder with more in the way of drier brighter days but with frosty nights. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 90.6mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 112.5mm. This means that we received 81% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 2nd with 19.5mm and there were 14 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 15.6 days for Dunkeswell. This year’s rainfall total for January was less than half last years January total of 197mm. The highest temperature I recorded during January was 14.4°C on the 9th , not as high as the 16.5°C recorded at Exeter Airport on the same day. The lowest temperature, -6.8°C, was recorded on the 23rd. .The strongest wind during January occurred in the early hours of the 14th when a gust of 56.4mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
