Weather Report – November 2014
In Plymtree the unsettled weather of October continued into November, more especially during the first half of the month. During the month there were only 7 completely dry days. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 160.4mm of which 138.5mm or 86% fell in the first half of the month. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 115.9mm. This means that we received 138% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 10th with 27.0mm and there were 18 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 14.8 days for Dunkeswell. My total rainfall for this autumn was 322.8mm, which compares to an average of 315.1mm for Dunkeswell or 102%. The highest temperature recorded was 15.6°C on the 1st. The lowest temperature, -3.4°C, was recorded on the 24th. The strongest wind occurred on the morning of the 13th when a gust of 38.7mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green. My strongest gust was 21.3mph, also on the 13th. The difference caused by my wind speed being measured at a height of about 6' in the shelter of my back garden and Pete’s on the roof of his house and exposed to the elements.
