Weather Report – August 2014

In Plymtree the total rainfall I measured for the month was 139.0mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 73.8mm. This means that we received 188%, nearly twice, the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of August was not in fact the day of the Country Fayre, when we had 25mm, but the 5th with 33.5mm. There were 12 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm) which compares to an average of 10.4 days for Dunkeswell. Thunderstorms occurred on the 2nd and the 14th. The highest temperature recorded was 24.6°C on the 6th. The lowest temperature, 3.1°C, was recorded on both the 20th and 24th. The strongest wind occurred on the late afternoon of the 10th, in association with the passage of ex-Hurricane 'Bertha', when a gust of nearly 30mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
